- Impressive Size - Tomahawk steaks are known for their large size. Our tomahawk steaks typically weigh between 30-45 ounces (850-1300 grams) or more. The extended bone, around 6-8 inches (15-20 cm) long, contributes to its impressive presentation.
Cooking Tips: Bring the steak up to room temperature- we recommend taking it out of the fridge 30-60 minutes prior to when you need to start cooking. Season the steak well with salt, pepper, olive oil and a sprig of rosemary. Pre heat the oven to 200°C / 180°C fan /Gas mark 6. Heat a flat based frying pan over a high heat and pan sear the steak on all sides using the bone as a handle if needed. Transfer to a baking pan and put into the oven. Here are suggested timings based on a 1kg tomahawk steak. For best results use a meat thermometer to accurately determine whether the steak is cooked to your liking.
Rare - 35-40 minutes - temperature should be 50-54°
Medium rare - 40-45 minutes - temperature should be 55-59°
Medium - 45-50 minutes - temperature should be 60-65°
Be sure to rest your steak for at least ten minutes prior to serving.
Pairing Suggestions: Bold reds such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec, or Syrah pair excellently with the rich, beefy flavour of tomahawk steak, or if you prefer white wine why not try try a rich Chardonnay or a full-bodied Viognier. Truffled mashed potatoes add another level of depth to your meal, complimented perfectly by grilled asparagus or roasted root vegetables. For sauce recommendations experiment with a red wine reduction or a fresh and tangy chimichurri sauce.
